Real Estate Industry loses innovative champion
R. DALE RECTOR, FOUNDER OF REALTY EXECUTIVES,
PASSES AWAY AT 84
PHOENIX, ARIZ. (November 1, 2004) - R. Dale Rector, respected throughout the real estate industry for his courage and commitment to creating a better system for top producing professionals, has passed away at the age of 84. Founder of Realty Executives International, Rector’s much-lauded real estate career spanned nearly half a century.
In the mid 1960s, Rector recognized that the status quo was not working and he sought to change and improve the business of selling real estate. He succeeded in his quest. Although many of his peers did not initially accept his ideas for what was then a controversial “100 percent commission concept,” the program not only succeeded, but went on to revolutionize the real estate industry. In 2003, Rector was recognized by Realtor Magazine as one of the industry’s 25 most influential professionals. He routinely received standing ovations whenever he appeared at one of his company’s events—first by the hundreds and, more recently, the more than ten thousand—executives whose professional lives he had benefited.
Unfortunately, his last battle was against cancer. Today, the company, and the industry, mourns the loss of one of their most significant champions, husband of June Rector for 54 years, father of four and grandfather of eight.
Rector, who began his real estate career in 1953 in his native Pueblo, Colorado, and founded Realty Executives in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1965, was known to be an innovator and a soft-spoken champion of real estate professionals industry-wide. Within 25 years, his 100 percent concept had emerged as an industry philosophy embraced by nearly one-quarter of all Realtors throughout the U.S.
